English words from the Classical Myths: Atlas


According to the Oxford dictionary, the word atlas means:"A book of maps or charts". According to the Etimology, the word atlas comes from a Titan called Atlas.
" Titan, son of Iapetus and Clymene, supposed to uphold the pillars of heaven, which was his punishment for being the war leader of the Titans in the struggle with the Olympian gods."Other words referring to atlas are: atlas moth, atlas mountains, atlantic.
